V-belt drives may be selected from pre-engineered tables based on data and formulas. This method
is still used directly or indirectly as most of those involved in the buying/selling process are not
familiar with the belt drive factors required to choose the right power transmission components.
However, due to the progress in computer science, it’s possible to determine the belts and sheaves
needed in a drive system without an engineer’s diploma.
